Iris--The Rainbow

Er, yes. Cheesy title aside, I'm exceptionally proud of this piece. (That always seems to happen on the pieces I spend the least amount of forethought on, which is annoying to someone who feels that clear evidence of forethought is part of what makes good art.) The colors come from one picture of an iris, in which I selected one column of pixels and streeeeetched it. The iris itself is a different iris, one with a not-quite-as-attractive color combination but a much greater contrast between it and its background, as well as greater contrast and texture within the flower itself. Even so, it was a struggle to pull the flower out of the background while preserving the subtlety and the original colors of the lines. Then of course with my usual instinct for doing too much, after I added the black border and the side panels, I wanted to fill parts of the side panels with little black rectangles. That was a disaster. You'd think I'd have learned by now.

Interestingly, note that the iris whose shape you see in this is the same iris photo that I used in Iris Abstract and the colors in this piece come from the purple iris on the left. All photos taken by myself. Enjoy!

It's also possible that I'll submit a wallpaper-sized version of this one, but I need to figure out what the proper dimensions are before I do.
