Felted wool slippers, identical to a pair I made for my mom for Mother's Day last May. I made these shortly afterward, because I liked them so much I wanted some for myself!

I knitted them double-stranded, with one strand of Caron Felt-It and one strand of Patons Classic Wool. Together, they make kind of a neat subtler version of the colors of the Felt-It yarn. The pattern was my own design, inspired by a couple of very simple slipper patterns I'd seen in various books, but a bit more complicated than those. This is the third pair I've made (the first pair turned out too wacky for words--yay for experiments!) and I've had to refine the pattern each time.

They're nice and thick and snug, and it's a pity I made them at the beginning of summer, because they're way too warm to wear. Ah well, I'll enjoy them when winter comes!

Thanks! These are actually the third attempt (although the second attempt was basically the same as these). The first try, I used yarn that was supposed to be good for felting, even though it was half acrylic, but it turned out that that meant it had one strand of wool and one strand of acrylic. It actually felted in a rather neat way, but the acrylic strand didn't allow it to shrink, so the slippers ended up way too big.

Definitely post yours! You always do such neat things--I'd love to see what you accomplished!

hee! thanks for the compliment! i have fun trying new things & it's just bonus points when they come out well! :)

The slippers that i did look really awesome, but they don't don't quite fit the way i like (although perfectly serviceable) and the real nightmare began when i decided to use that Saf-T-Bak stuff (for skid-proofing rugs) for the soles... See, i thought that would be the perfect way to make the bottoms waterproof & have a quick & easy way to add soles (i am not a proponent of sewing :P) but the stuff isn't *quite* flexible enough and so cracked & i've had to add coats every few months when i'm wearing them.

So now i'm in search of a different pattern & maybe i'll have to break down & sew soles on, but i dread it 'cause every time i pick up needle & thread, Disaster Happens! ;P

Hmmm…I had heard puffy-paint suggested for a non-stick sole. I bought some, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet (it's still way too hot for slippers, so I haven't gotten to use them, and I've been afraid to try the paint before I see how the slippers are without it). I think when I do try it, I'll just use little dots all over, so it'll be bumpy and won't crack.

Part of my pickyness is 'cause i want a real sole so i can go tromping outside in them at a moment's notice... hence wanting the waterproof bottom. Not sure what i'm going to do about it. :|

Um…dip them in rubber? (Can you dip things in rubber?) Wrap them in plastic wrap?

Sorry, I can't think of any good suggestions. But it seems to me you'd want to be careful about getting them too dirty, since you can't wash them easily.

Yeah, i was kinda wondering if there was a dippable rubber out there for such a thing, but haven't been able to find anything yet.

i've... actually washed my slippers a couple of times since i made them.. i used shoe stretchers to get them back into shape! It's probly not something i'd want to do on a regular basis, though... ;P

Very Beautiful! I love felting and have made several bags. Maybe I'll get photos and share. These look warm and cozy.

I'm working on socks now...what are you working on?

Yes, please share!

I've never tried socks, though I found some neat self-striping yarn at a local store and now I want to try. At the moment I have about ten different projects that are started, and I have no idea which one I'll finish next.

I love making socks now. It took me a long time before I tried them. I actually took a class on making socks with two circular needles. Now I'm a sock yarn hoarder. I have a bunch of self striping, some hand painted, some cotton, etc.

Once you start you will see how easy it really is.

I also know what you mean about having a bunch of projects going. I do too. Sock are very portable so I always have a pair to work on.

I'll get my camera working and take some photos.

Thanks, CM
